The Examinations Appeals Board

The Examinations Appeals Board (the EAB) is an independent body, set up by Ministers in 1999, to help give confidence to candidates, parents, schools and colleges who make use of the examinations system that the grades awarded are fair and accurate.

The EAB is the final stage of the Enquiries and Appeals process. The earlier stages are carried out by the awarding body responsible for the examination. The awarding bodies are AQA, CCEA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC.

The EAB hears final appeals on GCSE and GCE examinations.  It also hears appeals about Principal Learning and Project components of the Diploma.

The Chairperson is Professor Jeff Thompson. The Deputy Chairpersons are Mrs Caroline Blatchford and Mr David Snashall.
